Guiding Philosophy/Purpose
The goal of this class is to make students aware of how they are influenced by the world around them. This class will help students be more introspective into their world, their community, and themselves as individuals.

Topics Covered
Sociology focuses on special topics such as: groups, culture, socialization, deviance and inequalities (gender, social class, race, ethnicity). This class will explore these areas through sociological readings and engaging in discussion and simulation.

Benefits of taking Sociology
Upon completion of this course and service hours, students should gain a better understanding of themselves and their place in the social world.

Top three reasons to take Sociology:
1. Gain a broader perspective of yourself and other people.
2. Instead of more multiple choice tests, students practice sociology through their own blogs.
3. Instead of a traditional final exam, learn by experiencing community service.
