Course Description:
DUAL CREDIT WITH LOYOLA UNIVERSITY

Students will develop a sophisticated understanding of social life in human society. In the process of developing a distinct sociological perspective, they will engage in different levels of research and analysis of interpersonal and large group behaviors across the world. Sociology Honors focuses on special topics such as groups, culture, socialization, deviance and inequalities (gender, social class, race, ethnicity), and globalization. This class will explore these areas through sociological readings and engaging in discussion, simulations, written reflections and assessments. Students will be required to complete ten community service hours in addition to a traditional final exam. Upon completion of this course and required service hours, students will have developed an academic sociological mindset to examine the relationships among cultural, economic, political, and social forces and their impact on human behavior in an increasingly globalized society.
