Who can take this course: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors*

Length of course: Two Semesters

Guiding Philosophy/Purpose
Students will learn about the architecture, religion, and values from past and present cultures by analyzing their works of art.

Topics Covered
In first semester, students explore chronologically pre-historic art through early Renaissance and in second semester students explore High Renaissance through contemporary art.

Benefits of taking AP Art History
Students become culturally literate on a variety of topics which will enrich their lives.  Art history is a specific body of knowledge which once learned will enriches students lives.

1.  Become culturally literate on a variety of topics.
2.  Make connections between all of the classes you've taken through analyzing the aesthetic values  of cultures from around the world, both past and present.
3.  Field trips to Chicago each semester to study the art and architecture!


Favorite course activities
Getting to know your classmates better through sharing your own cultural identity is a bonus of taking Art History.  You'll expand your vocabulary with fun activities which will improve the quality of all your future travel experiences.

*Course Options
Students can opt to take the year long AP Art History class at the Honors level or they may take Art History 1 first semester of Art History 2 second semester at the college prep level.  AP and college prep students are all in the same class with AP homework and exam expectations increased.
