Guiding Philosophy/Purpose
For better and worse, Europe has been a driving force in the world for the last 500 years. Many of the most dominant ideas in the world today [democracy, industrialism, capitalism, communism, science] have their origin in modern Europe. The world is changing and will not stop. For many people, change happens to them. By being informed, AP European History empowers you to impact that change. AP Euro is a fascinating, exciting and challenging study of the events and individuals who have shaped our world since 1450.

Topics Covered
The Renaissance, Reformation, Absolutism, Scientific Revolution, Enlightenment, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Imperialism, Nationalism, Russian Revolution, WWI & WWI, Holocaust, Cold War, Post-Soviet Era, European Union.

Benefits of taking AP Euro
Prepare for AP US History. Challenges student learning, improving critical analysis, reading, writing, and test-taking skills.  Provides an excellent opportunity to earn college credit (on average 90-95% of AP Euro students earn college credit based on AP test scores), and is a course that enhances a student's transcript.  Provides an intellectually engaging environment for students who want to challenge themselves and truly understand how the history of the west has shaped the 21st century.

Top three reasons to take AP Euro:
1. Have fun learning about how some of the most interesting personalities changed the course of history.
2. To understand your world today, you MUST know how the European past has shaped it.
3. Develop the reading and writing skills needed for any future AP courses in Social Studies at Stevenson High School, and for college.
